Job Purpose/Summary 

  • Aid the Rehabilitation Team Leader in developing and promoting the roles of Rehabilitation Specialists within Al Jalila Children’s Hospital
  • Developing and promoting protocols and standards of care.
  • Assists in the safe, effective, and efficient management of the department with allocated resources.
  • Monitors and evaluates team operations/services and services in order to identify problems and takes a lead role in improving systems/processes and safe, effective, and efficient resident/patient care.
  • Oversees compliance with quality control, clinical practice, and health and safety guidelines amongst staff and in their team’s working environments.

Clinical Practice:

  • Provides individualized and comprehensive patient care according to their discipline/field of practice and implements assessments, treatment plans, and re-assessments as necessary.
  • Plans and implements age-appropriate treatment interventions, effective in promoting patient motivation and progress in the following:
  • Head and Trunk Control,
  • Weight-bearing and weight shifting through extremities,
  • Bed mobility and Transfers,
  • Functional Mobility/locomotion,
  • Reduction of pain,
  • Adjustment to a disability,
  • Use of adaptive equipment,
  • Home and/or school visit for environmental assessment
  • Monitors and documents the patient’s condition, interventions, and the effectiveness of care.
  • Assesses, plans provide and evaluates the educational needs of the patient and family.
  • Provides and benchmarks patient care in accordance with the standards of care, established policies, procedures, and evidence-based practices.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills by problem-solving appropriately during patient care.
  • Provides appropriate and timely progress notes, at least daily for inpatients and each visit for outpatients, education updates, and contact updates as indicated by a patient condition or special program.
  • Provides comprehensive clinical handover for weekend duty/leave coverage and reports as required.
  • Prescribes and requests optimal, appropriate, resources efficient equipment/supplies.
  • Aid the Rehabilitation Team Leader in developing and promoting the roles of rehabilitation specialists within Al Jalila Children’s Hospital and across the region; developing and promoting protocols and standards of care.
  • Assists in the safe, effective, and efficient management of the department with allocated resources.
  • Monitors and evaluates team operations/services and services in order to identify problems and takes a lead role in improving systems/processes and safe, effective, and efficient resident/patient care.
  • Oversees compliance with quality control, clinical practice, and health and safety guidelines amongst staff and in their team’s working environments.
  • Ensures team members work within their capacity, experience, and scope of practice.
  • Liaises with Team Leader to ensure patient caseload is addressed with the appropriate staffing and skill mix.
  • Promotes an interdisciplinary team approach based on mutual respect and direct communication between health care professionals to ensure care is effectively delivered.
  • Measures and monitors productivity. Analyze clinical and non-clinical activity and recognize areas where time efficiency can be enhanced through process revision.
  • Assists in the daily management of workload allocation of staff within the specialist area.
  • Takes responsibility to ensure complaints, concerns and recommendations are escalated appropriately and documented.
  • Imparts knowledge and skills within the interdisciplinary team.
  • Positively & actively participates in organizational change.
  • Management of the team in the absence of the Team Leader, or where appropriately delegated.
  • Conducting and assisting the Rehabilitation Team Leader in strategic goal setting, performance appraisals, and management of the staff.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and provides leadership in conflict management and problem-solving.
  • Participates in unit budget preparation to ensure adequate resource availability and to monitor resource usage. May have budgeting and projection responsibilities for new projects.
  • Consults with and reports to the Rehabilitation team on a regular/weekly basis, including daily huddles.
  • Ensures all equipment used is in proper working order and removes malfunctioning equipment for repair and reports this to Rehab Aide and/or Team Leader.
  • Demonstrates familiarization with rehabilitation program policies and procedures and discipline-specific policies and procedures and seeks clarification if uncertain
  • Demonstrates understanding and support of, as well as a commitment, to the organization through providing daily patient services in an ethical and legal manner.

Professional Practice Development:

  • Identifies self-learning needs and take initiative to meet those needs
  • Provides professional leadership and acts as a positive role model and mentor for team members.
  • Serves as a role model for all staff assisting in promoting and sharing knowledge via mentorship and preceptorship programs in accordance with evidence-based practice.
  • Acts as a preceptor/mentor in the supervision and teaching new staff or students in the development of competencies required
  • Welcomes and actively participates in staff/student orientation, promoting and supporting a positive learning environment and transcultural principles in nursing practice
  • Develops and maintains own professional knowledge, clinical competency, and skills utilizing reflective practice and maintaining a professional portfolio
  • Participates in service activities that contribute to positive patient outcomes, a positive patient experience, and a healthy professional environment

Education

  • Discipline-specific Bachelor degree from an accredited University/College/Institution.

Preferred:

  • MSc or participation in the completion of a relevant post-graduate degree/diploma
  • Discipline-specific specialist courses (Eg. Aquatics, Taping, serial casting, NDT, seating, and positioning)

Experience

  • Minimum six (6) years in a large hospital with relevant experience with patients with similar diagnoses seen in acute care hospitals or rehab facilities.
  • Evidence of progression in advancing leadership/senior roles and responsibilities

Certification and Licensure

  • Valid and current professional license from country of origin
  • Ability to qualify for DHRC licensure
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) required
