Position Overview:
The Manager for Finance Risers is responsible for:
- Preparation of financial reports for funders.
- Monitor income from funders; give advice and guidance on fundersā terms and conditions.
- Provide an efficient customer-focused service to budget holders in the faculties.
- Provide financial management and administration relating to research grants and contracts including costing and pricing applications.
Key Responsibilities of the Role:
- Preparation of financial reports for funders:
- Negotiating research contracts with the Sponsors.
- Administering research deliverables including grants, contracts, consultancy, tenders, internal grants, clinical trials.
- Providing budgeting advice in terms of the rules of the Sponsor.
- Ensuring all projects associated with the funding are opened in a timely manner according to SSMC procedures.
- Monitor income from funders; give advice and guidance on fundersā terms and conditions:
- Checking contracts received are accurate and complete for financial information. Ensuring any non-financial terms and conditions which affect payment are highlighted and understood. Ensuring any queries with contracts are resolved by the legal team.
- Manage a portfolio of research fellowship awards across a range of funding bodies, ensuring compliance with: accounting principles; financial regulations, policies and procedures; sponsor terms and conditions and deadlines.
- Provide timely and accurate provision of information to internal and external auditors, as required, on both project specific and general research audits.
- Managing the team:
- Checking workload, performance management, day to day supervision, training and orientation of the staff.
- Planning and supervising the day to day activities of the section; streamlining processes wherever possible.
- Providing on the job orientation to the team during course of work.
- Understanding the training requirements of the team and communicating the same to the department head.
Education
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Accounting/Finance/Commerce/Economics/ Business Administration or relevant field.
Desired:
- Master’s degree or equivalent in Accounting/Finance/Commerce/Business Administration or relevant field.
Additional Requirement:
- Recognized international accountancy qualification such as CA, CPA, CMA, CIMA, or equivalent.
Experience
Required:
- 5-7 years of relevant progressive experience in a similar role.
- Financial analysis/ or accounting experience.
- Experience in improving financial planning and reporting activities.
- Previous experience as a finance business partner or similar role.
Skills
Required:
- Expert proficiency in English language.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Strong inter-personal skills.
- Good leadership skills to manage a team of 3-5 direct & indirect repartees.
- Expert Experience in Oracle or other similar ERPs.
- Expert skills in MS Office suite.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to deal with multiple issues simultaneously (multitask) and move them all towards resolution.
- Ability to meet goals and deadlines.
