The Financial Controller will manage all finance and accounting operations, the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts, and preparing timely monthly reporting for key stakeholders. The financial controller will oversee all aspects of the financial accounting including regulatory and management reporting, budget and forecast preparation, as well as development of internal controls policies and procedures.
The financial controller will engage with project teams and senior executives to create and maintain strong financial reporting and business plans, report and analyze monthly financial reports, and gather data to evaluate and identify areas of improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage all accounting operations including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, treasury, general ledger, cost accounting and revenue recognition.
- Work with senior finance leaders in order to analyze, update, report on, and monitor business plans and financial reporting as other financial analysis projects on an ad hoc basis.
- Support month end and year end close process
- Manage and provide oversight to any outsourced accounting activities
- Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and provide frequent budget to actual analysis
- Assist in the preparation and evaluation of monthly management reporting as well as annual statutory financial statements
- Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting and manage and comply with local tax and regulatory requirements
- Ensure quality control over financial transactions and reporting and develop policies and procedures for all key accounting activities
- Provide analytical support to the CFO and other members of the team, as required.
- Use data driven metrics in identifying areas for growth/improvement
- Develop, communicate and present project documentation and reports
- Develop a strong understanding of Discovery business model and learn the financial intricacies of the project
- Ability to meet strict deadlines, multi-task, and self-troubleshoot financial models.
- Demonstrate mastery of the Financial Controller skills and role while developing higher-level skills that would enable future advancement within the Company
- Ability to produce ad-hoc reports quickly and accurately
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university in accounting, finance or business
- Qualified chartered accountant preferred
- Minimum 5 years of relevant finance/accounting experience required
- Minimum 2 years of construction/real estate development industry experience preferred
- Knowledge of IFRS and US GAAP preferred
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access and Word, and experience with accounting applications
- Working knowledge of Power BI, with experience in SQL preferred
- Background in Sage 300 preferred
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills to convey comprehensive thoughts in a concise manner
- Excellent time management and organization skills
- Ability to meet constant deadlines and deliver results with high attention to quality and detail
- Ability to work with a diverse staff.
- Must be professional and maintain the ability to communicate at different levels, in verbal and written form.
- Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
