Role Purpose
Health and Safety Manager is accountable for development, implementation, correction of processes and procedures identifying and eliminating potential hazards in the working environment across logistics operations.
The job holder lead and execute implementation of various H&S management systems, with further updates if required.
Role Details – Key Responsibilities And Accountabilities
Health and Safety Activities
- To develop and execute health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines and latest H&S international Standards
- Keep up to date with changes in current legislation and to bring to the attention of the Line Managers for Health and Safety any relevant new legislation
- Ensure that all assessments as required by legislation are conducted and reviewed at relevant intervals and to maintain records of the same
- Manage relation with relevant authorities’ representatives to coordinate on inspections, reports, corrective actions and issuance of permits
- To recommend control measures and advise on the standard of P.P.E. issued to employees
- Conduct health and safety inspections, prepare reports of all logistics operations and manage any related issues
- Implementing practical and effective safety methods to make sure all warehouse and transport operations are carried out safely
- Define, control and train on flows of hazardous goods, including receiving, storage, handling, transport and cooperate with authorities on compliance related matters and permits
- Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention
- Conduct and record all risk assessments
- Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions
- Co-ordinate and manage colleague safety reps, first aid and emergency response teams
- Investigate and record accidents, incidents or near-miss incidents to discover root causes, establish corrective and preventive measures
- Provide support in case of worker’s compensation claims
- To highlight areas where training/certification is required to meet the standards imposed by Legislation, Approved Codes of Practice, or H.S.E. guidance
- To bring new techniques for improving health, safety and welfare to the attention of the Line Manager responsible for health and safety
- To set a personal example by wearing appropriate personal protective clothing/equipment and observing all safety requirements/procedures Human Capital Responsibilities
- Assist with implementation of the performance management process by setting objectives, monitoring performance, and provide constructive feedback and provide inputs to senior management
- Provide mentorship for the purpose of developing a continuous talent pipeline for key roles
- Provide inputs on training needs and coordinate with the HC department to ensure facilitation of training requirements
- Develop and implement on the job-training for the team
- Provide inputs for the development of annual manpower plan
- Ensure the implementation of MAF Retail’s corporate policies and relevant procedures
- Reporting
- Immediately contact the Line Managers responsible for H&S and Operations, if situations are found, that in the opinion of the Safety Manager, require immediate rectification or the stopping of any operation
- Communicate with all parties involved in the logistics operations advised of risk, security, compliance and emergency issues that could impact on business operations
- Send to the Line Managers a monthly summary of the recorded situation
- Financial Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage with the R&C HO Team for the H&S external audit
- Follow-up on the corrective action plans for the External and Internal audits, Municipality and Trakhees visits, customer complaints.
- Prepare internal audit checklist and update senior management on its implementation progress
Definition of Success
- No accidents in the Distribution Centre due to implemented policies and increased employees’ awareness
- Successful certification of Distribution Centre, on various H&S management systems
- Resolved/apprehended cases
- Hazardous goods storage process compliant with regulations and norms, with successful managing authorities’ inspections
- Maintaining relation with Dubai Municipality and Trakhees within the area of responsibility
- Achievement of Risk and Compliance Audit score target
Functional/Technical Competencies
- Working knowledge in Health, Safety and Environment Management Systems, Incident Command System, Incident Investigation, H&E Auditing Techniques, ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, ISO 27001:2018
- Nebosh IGC Certified, Nebosh Incident Investigator
- Hazardous goods storage and handling certification
Qualification And Experience
Qualification, Experience & Skills:
- Bachelor Degree in Science/Engineering or equivalent with additional professional qualifications in H&S, Fire & Safety Management Systems
- 5 or above years’ experience in Health, Safety and Fire Services in Distribution Centre, equipped in ammonia cooling system
- Certified IRCA Auditor (ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, ISO 27001:2018) – would be an advantage
