MAIN PURPOSE

  • The Senior GL accountant is responsible for overseeing the GL functions and providing overall guidance to the GL staff members
  • Maintain accurate financial statements by ensuring that balance sheet accounts reflect valid transactions and that P&L accounts are accurate and complete
  • Perform and assure accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end accounting closing processes including accounts analysis and reconciliations relevant to the GL function
  • Ensure compliance of financial data to internal, professional, and regulatory standards
  • Contribute to process improvements, efficiency opportunities, and policy updates
  • Propose improvements and innovations that increase process efficiency

Key Responsibilities

Reviews and Validations

  • Review and validate the completeness of all journal entries and adjustments (provisions, accruals, etc..)
  • Review bank reconciliations
  • Ensure Balance Sheet policy maintenance, application, and implementation
  • Ensure that Balance Sheet Schedules are properly updated, follow-up and action plans are done on old items and supporting documents are present
  • Perform monthly Balance Sheet review with R&A Manager, report escalations when needed
  • Review relevant reconciliation of accounts (stocks, suppliers, intercompany, and other general ledgers) as per the defined frequency
  • Sign-off balance confirmations
  • Review petty cash counts and deposit confirmation
  • Ensuring that general ledger accounts are up to date as per Group COFA
  • Review and publish CAPEX Management Report

Other Functions

  • Perform account analysis to ensure that journal entries and balances are correct and apply necessary accruals
  • Align general ledger accounting practices to support budgeting and forecasting
  • Assist in SAP technical queries and coordinate with central SAP Team when needed
  • Develop and document business processes and update policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Participate in projects when needed, supervise and support projects related to GL functions
  • Attend to escalated issues and concerns
  • Other GL ad-hoc tasks as assigned

Audit and Internal Controls

  • Assist internal and external auditors, implement recommendations (if any), and take corrective action/s when required
  • Perform regular tests on controls as per ICS requirements

Management

  • Support the GL supervisor in managing workload assignments and delegations of the GL Team; provide support when needed

JOB PROFILE

Education

B.Com/ Finance Graduate, professional accounting certification and qualification would be an advantage

Experience

At least 7 years of relevant experience in Finance with at least 3 years of managerial position, audit experience is a plus

Experience in the luxury industry would be an advantage

Technical Skills/abilities

  • Proven accounting skills and experience with GL functions, month-end/year-end closing processes
  • Knowledge of computerized accounting systems – especially SAP
  • In-depth knowledge of International Accounting Standards / IFRS
  • Knowledge in UAE VAT
  • Good computer skills, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, BI would be a plus
